Kids Incorporated

Kids….In-Corp-Orated, “Hey!”

Kids Incorporated was a Children’s Musical Television Program that aired from 1984 to 1993. Some of today’s most notable stars are alumi of the show, including Stacy (Fergie) Ferguson of the Black Eyed Peas who played “Stacy” (1984-1989), American Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt who played “Robin” (1989 – 1991), and American Actor/Host, Mario Lopez (1984 – 1986). The show was supposed to appear as though it took place at a Public School in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Fort Greene. The children and teenage characters were members of the rock band called “Kids Incorporated” and they frequently performed at a local restaurant called “The P*lace”. The dialogue consisted of kids dealing with personal issues including, but not limited to bullying, divorce, and crushes. Each episode usually included several cover songs by popular artists, like Madonna, Whitney Houston, Bon Jovi, and Boyz II Men. There were also original songs written to fit the dialogue.

Kids Incorporated was one of those shows that made you long to be a singer. The cool characters helped inspire our childish imaginations, and we’d pretend we were going through the same circumstances as Stacy, Renee, Ana, and Mario. We’d perform their emo and catchy songs in front of the mirror. I still love to sing “Kids-N-Corp-Orated…Hey” as I trust my hips from side to side (see video to learn the move).
