Do you remember...

Dixie Cups

Dixie Cups Ice Cream

Sometimes we just have to let by-gone’s be by-gone’s, but I’m not going to say I like that the infamous Dixie Cup Ice Cream is no longer around! Though I can’t recall exactly when they disappeared from our grocery stores, I guess there comes a point when everything fades away. :(

In the 80′s and 90′s the Dixie Cup Ice Cream came in a little plastic container with ridges along the outside, and a paper pull-tab lid, and you certainly can’t forget that little wooden spoon. The cups were often sold individually, but could also be purchased with about 10 Dixie Cups in a long plastic bag. The creamy Orange Sherbet and Vanilla Ice Cream was quiet a little delight on a hot summer day. Now days, you can find a generic version sold in grocery stores, called “Sunday Cups”, which feature Vanilla Ice Cream with chocolate fudge, and individual servings of ice cream come in many forms, especially for dieters who closely watch their calorie intake.

I’d like to see a throw-back to the Dixie Cup Ice Cream we knew as kids. Isn’t there anyone out there who’d like to start producing the cute little ice cream cup? They would thrive alongside all the cupcake and frozen yogurt shops in New York, and they’d be a novelty in beach-side resort towns, and they could even be a feature item in ice cream trucks across America. Just an idea!!!
