1992
Do you remember...
Crystal Pepsi
Between 1992 and 1993 the Pepsi Co. launched a revolutionary product called Crystal Pepsi, sometimes referred to as “Pepsi Clear”. Crystal Pepsi was a caffeine-free, clear cola, closely resembling 7-Up in appearance, while retaining Pepsi’s classic cola taste. One thing was “clear” about Crystal Pepsi, that it was a hit. Crystal Pepsi accounted for a 1% of all U.S. soft-drink sales, approx. $474 million dollars, which was huge for a trendy drink. While posting huge numbers initially at launched, with a huge marketing push behind it, including a Super Bowl campaign and featuring mega-band Van Halen’s “Right Now” song in the commercial, sales quickly dropped off and Pepsi eventually pulled the product in 1993.
