Big League Chew
“You’re in the big leagues when you’re into Big League Chew!” was the tagline for everybody’s favorite baseball/tobacco-themed gum, Big League Chew. Big League Chew was modeled after chewing tobacco, which was popular amongst professional baseball players and kids from small logging communities. Class A Minor League player and Portland Mavericks pitcher, Rob Nelson created Big League Chew and the Wrigley Company put out the product in 1980. The gum came shredded in a wad, stuffed in an aluminum, stay fresh, foil pack, resembling a bag of chewing tobacco. Originally, the gum came in on flavor, bubble gum, but then went on to include the ever so popular grape, watermelon and sour apple flavors.
