Do you remember...
Casey Kasem

“Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars” (Casey Kasem). Casey Kasem is best known as the radio host of the Top 40 countdown show American Top 40, which he hosted from its 1970 inception until 1988 and from 1998 until Ryan Seacrest took over in 2004. He is also remembered from Casey’s Top 40, Casey’s Hot 20, and Casey’s Countdown, which he hosted during his absence (1989 – 1998) from American Top 40. Kasem would often include tidbits of information about the songs and artists that made the countdown, often in the form of trivia questions that would be mentioned before a commercial break and answered upon the shows return to air. Though we recall Kasem sounding very studious and professional on the radio, there were several occasions when he lost his temper and went into tirades on air. Perhaps the funniest and most remembered was when he went into a profanity-stricken outburst over a caller who wanted to dedicate a song to his deceased dog. Ha, ha, ha! If you can’t recall the moment, it’s certainly worth a search on YouTube!
